Equipped with its original 390 cubic inch V8 that runs really nicely. RM JKNJ3W 1966 Ford Thunderbird chrome spoked wheel abstract. it is also equipped with a power antenna and modern “retro” radio making listening to music while driving as easy as your modern day car. The power top and windows all work well and as they should. Completely restored and is in beautiful condition with paintwork, chrome and upholstery all in very nice condition.

Powered by Fords rare Q Code 428 cu inch V8. Finished in a deep red with a black interior and black canvas top this car is nothing short of incredibly good looking. Now on display is an excellent and original fourth generation Thunderbird. Offered here is an outstandingly beautiful and sharp example of a 1966 Thunderbird equipped with the extremely good looking “Sports Roadster” rear tonneau cover and chrome wire wheels. This era of the Thunderbird is one of the best designs it ever had and the fiberglass cover over the rear seat with chrome wire wheels is really a beautiful look and rarely seen today. This “Sports Package” was offered until 1964 when it would unfortunately be discontinued, although you were still able to order the fiberglass tonneau through dealers until 1966 and they would have installed at a customers request. Note the difference between this model and the Town Hardtop: the Town Landau features a Levant grain vinyl roof in Black, White, Parchment, or Sage Gold with color-coordinated S-Bars. There are 220 1959 to 1966 Ford Thunderbirds for sale today on. The cover was originally a dealer-installed option, but in 1962, it found its way onto new Thunderbird order forms as part of a Sports Roadster package. Another new model for 1966, the Town Landau replaced the Landau for this one year only. Customers were very ready for the Thunderbird to return as a two seat sports car so Lee Iacocca appointed designer Bud Kaufman to come up with a fix, and he did: a removable fiberglass tonneau that would cover up the Thunderbird convertible’s rear seats and incorporate headrests for the front-seat occupants. Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis drove this piece of American history. This American classic launched his career.

Although, in 1961 Ford decided to revise the Thunderbird once again and reintroduced it as more of a luxury sports car rather than a full size luxury car that it had previously morphed into. Lot 1285 - Offered for sale is the 'star' of the 1991 Oscar-winning classic movie, 'Thelma & Louise'. As the years progressed the Thunderbird continued to get updated and grew larger which resulted in it becoming more of a luxury convertible in 1958 with 4 seats.
